Structure

The Collaborative is fiscally-sponsored by Asian Health Services, an Oakland, California-based community clinic.  A steering committee advises on strategic direction and priority setting, establishes policies, and provides fiscal oversight.  The Collaborative’s members, steering committee, staff, and salon worker/owner advisory groups jointly provide shared leadership in advancing the Collaborative’s work.  Members meet several times a year to share updates, coordinate, and strategize about future work.   Nail salon workers and owners regularly convene through regional advisory committees and community forums creating the space for leadership development and to further the Collaborative’s work.

The Collaborative also coordinates a national multi-disciplinary Research Advisory Committee (RAC), comprised of experts from toxicology, chemistry, epidemiology, environmental health sciences, industrial hygiene, and nursing, to provide technical expertise to its research, policy advocacy and outreach efforts.

Together with Women’s Voices for the Earth and the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, the Collaborative coordinates the National Healthy Nail and Beauty Salon Alliance, which works to increase the health, safety, and rights of salon workers by reducing their toxic chemical exposure through engaging in strategic movement building, policy advocacy and media efforts nationally.
