    Santa ClaraOn March 10, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors unanimously enacted the Santa Clara County Healthy Nail Salon Recognition Program, championed by Supervisor Cindy Chavez.  Santa Clara became the fifth local government in California to adopt a Healthy Nail Salon Recognition Program.  Read more about the story here.

    The Collab is partnering with the EPA to pilot a microloan program for nail salons THAT want to achieve “Healthy Nail Salon” status. In partnership with Asian Health Services, Working Solutions, Opportunity Fund, the Federal Reserve Bank, and Alameda, San Francisco, Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, we will be implementing this program that allows nail salons to receive 0% loans to purchase safer, less toxic nail products and ventilation equipment.

    allianceSalon workers, owners, and National Healthy Nail and Beauty Salon Alliance members went to Washington, DC in November 2014 to advocate for the Safe Cosmetics and Personal Care Products Act (H.R. 1385), which would help to ensure ingredients in salon products are safe and require full ingredient disclosure for salon products.
