National Healthy Nail and Beauty Salon Alliance
The Collaborative is a founding partner of the National Healthy Nail and Beauty Salon Alliance, which is at the forefront of a national movement for salon worker health, safety and rights. Founded in 2007 along with Women’s Voices for the Earth and the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, the Alliance is an active network of nonprofit organizations, scientific researchers, academics, advocates spanning the reproductive justice, environmental justice, public health, Asian Pacific Islander, and workers’ rights movements and allies in government agencies.
The goal of the Alliance is to protect and improve the health and welfare of workers in nail salons. To achieve this goal, the Alliance acts as a national convener and provides opportunities for local and state-based efforts to strategically connect and feed into a national movement aimed at promoting workers rights, health and safety, and reducing occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals in salons.
In May 2011, the California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative co-organized a Healthy Salons Week of Action in Washington DC in partnership as part of the National Healthy Nail and Beauty Salon Alliance!

Media
To build greater awareness about the healthy and safety issues faced by the salon community, the Collaborative seeks partners with various organizations to produce impactful media pieces about the occupational exposures to toxic chemicals workers experience in salons. The Collaborative also increases awareness about this issue by presenting its work at key conferences and meetings.
Check out our media partnership with Brave New Foundation and watch this video, “Do You Want a Toxic Manicure?” which highlights workplace health and the toxic trio.
